Marilha Naccari · Researcher and curator

I study what film leaves behind.

Sustainability, knowledge and territory in Latin American cinema. PhD candidate at EGC/UFSC, curator at FAM since 2009 and co-founder of Ecovision, where I lead research and development.

Three questions that guide my work

Who keeps the value when a production passes through a territory?

A shoot uses local landscapes, stories and labour. In my doctoral research I look at what returns to those places, and how to measure it without copying criteria made for other realities.

What changes in a production after one hour of conversation?

In a study with film producers, a one-hour mediation resulted in 43% higher sustainable intention. I then set out to understand what happens in that hour, through the lens of knowledge management.

Who does the boundary work, and who gets the name?

The sustainability transition depends on people who translate between science, policy and the film set. I study how that work is distributed and recognised, with attention to gender.

Both sides of the table

I have decided which films a festival screens, which projects a public fund supports and which criteria a seal adopts. That experience goes into the research, and the research goes back to the people who produce.

  • 25+juries in seven countries
  • 6countries whose public funds I have evaluated for
  • 2026appointed by BRAVI to the Brazilian Ministry of Culture working group on sustainability and climate action in the Rouanet Law
